First Sightings of DirecTV’s DVR Client Server
Slowly new details are surfacing of DirecTV’s Home Media Center offering that, according to Engadget’s report from CES this past January, will use a centeral server to stream video, photos, and music to the company’s next-gen set-top boxes. Previously only GUI screenshots where available of the new system, but DirecTV has brought that actual hardware unit to the Electronic Home Expo show floor and have renamed it DirecTV DVR Client Server. Engadget states: “Apparently DirecTV hasn’t decided the distribution medium for ’round the house communications between units, but the thing’s got more ports than coastal town and apparently even dual sat and ATSC tuners (say wha?). Nothings set in stone (or even confirmed) yet though, so we’ll keep our ears to the ground on this one – we’re sure we’ll hear more about it this coming CES, if nowhere else.”
