Amazon Adds "Digital Wallet" Feature

amazon logoIt looks like Amazon has quietly rolled out a new feature called Digital Wallet that allows customers to stream full digital audio from albums they have pre-ordered. No word if the service will extend to all CDs purchased through the store, specifically CDs that are currently available, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

Below is excerpt of the service from Amazon.com Digital Media Technology jobs page:

Digital Locker

We’ve designed, developed and launched the successful order contingent downloads and digital locker which enables a customer to buy a physical product and get access to a bonus digital product. For example, when an Amazon customer pre-orders a CD before it has hit the market, we provide a full digital version of that CD in the customer’s digital locker that they can stream and listen to.

Another feature associated with our digital locker is Amazon’s Look Inside the Manual. Look Inside the Manual is a lifesaver for finding manuals for items you’ve bought or researching items in depth before you buy. This innovative system allows customers or vendors to submit manuals for products and deliver them into the customers’ digital locker. It was built entirely from an internal group product idea and helps a huge number of customers per day. If you bought items from Amazon for which we have manuals online, we’ve already placed them in your digital locker.

There are many ways we plan to continue to surprise and delight Amazon customers with the digital locker, especially as our growth in other digital businesses continues.
