Samsung USA "USB Host Play" DivX/DVD/WMA Home Theater System Lineup Impresses

samsung ht-p50

OK, folks… if you were impressed by Samsung’s “USB Host PlayHT-UP30 & HT-TP33 Home Theater Systems, it turns out that the company’s U.S. models are even more powerful: HT-P38, HT-WP38, HT-P50, HT-P1200! While they don’t support WMV playback like the European versions, the high-end systems like the HT-P50 w/ 5-Disc Changer offers HDMI connectivity, DCDi HDTV (with Up-Conversion to 720p and 1080i), 1000 Watts total output (140 Watts x 6 Channels + 160 Watt Subwoofer), and 5.1 channel surround. And of course, since they’re USB Host Plug & Play enabled, they can all playback media content from USB connected devices like a digital camera, portable media player, USB storage key/drive, etc. (view demo).

Supported Media: DVD, CD, MP3, WMA, DivX, JPEG
Price Ranges: $256 – $999

Thanks for the tip, Jaxun!

    Hi all!

I would reckon that we will see this "USB Host Play" function appear on al of the HTiB models except the low-end models. I even went through the instruction manual for the 'WP38 which was on the Samsung website and they would work properly with most of the USB card readers.

One unanswered question that I have with some of the multi-slot card readers that present themselves as multiple drives such as presenting each slot as a drive letter or a four-slot card reader with two drive letters - one for each pair of slots whether horizontal or vertical. To be sure, I would use one slot at a time no matter the card-reader's behaviour with a PC.

    With regards,
