MSI Showcases MEGA VIEW 566 Pro at Computex 2005
Direct from MSI at Computex 2005: “With its large, bright, and colorful 3.5″ LCD screen, the MEGA VIEW 566 Pro is great for watching MPEG/DivX/Motion JPEG/WMV video clips or previewing your digital images anywhere you like. It features a built-in memory card slot that is compatible with MMC and Secure Digital memory cards, so you can connect the MEGA VIEW 566 Pro to your computer through the USB 2.0 cable to transfer your favorite videos, music, and pictures. With its generous storage of 20 GB capacity, the MEGA VIEW 566 Pro has more than enough space to store your music collection to be enjoyed on the road. It also has some pretty cool features such as FM radio/recorder for listening and recording real-time FM channel programs, voice recorder with built-in microphone for recording lectures, interviews and voice memos, and video/audio recorder for recording your favorite TV shows.
Besides the advanced features found in previous MEGA VIEW models, MSI is giving users the best digital entertainment experience without limits. With the USB On-The-Go (OTG) technology, users can connect their digital camera and download images onto the MEGA VIEW 566 Pro without the need for PC intervention. It’s exactly what users need to accommodate everyday choices, such as to play music, watch videos, or view digital photos. The possibilities are just endless! The MEGA VIEW 566 is amazingly small and won’t cramp your style, and it is so stylish and useful you will want to bring it anywhere you go!”
But will it do my taxes? Just kidding…. What do you guys think of the new design? The original 566 looks more appealing IMHO, but I do like the fact that it supports USB On-The-Go for high-speed wireless syncing.

The article from eHomeUpgrade says “With the USB On-The-Go (OTG) technology, users can connect their digital camera and download images onto the MEGA VIEW 566 Pro without the need for PC intervention.”
I’m primarily interested in using a portable media player to download my digital camera images when on long trips. Up until now, I’ve always had to take a laptop computer with me. My camera uses xD cards – so the sd interface on this new player does me no good – however this “USB on-the-go” sounds like the perfect thing. What I’m wondering is:
1) Neither the MSI web site or any vendor sites acknowledge this player has “USB on-the-go”. Does it REALLY have it?
2) If the answer to 1 is yes, are there any requirements of my camera’s USB interface? It is USB 2.0 — but I seem to remember in the early references to this technology, your camera manuf. had to support this functionality.
