On2Share Windows Media Player LAN Streaming Plug-In
Looking for a fully integrated solution for Windows Media Player to get iTunes-style LAN-sharing? Via Jake Ludington’s MediaBlab, On2Share allows you to share your Windows Media Player playlists across your LAN. Not only does On2Share work with other copies of WMP it finds on the network, it also supports any connected UPnP-enabled device.
On2Share has two components: The On2Share Media Server, which share WMP playlists across the network. And the On2Share controller, which searches for other PCs running the On2Share Media Server and UPnP devices. When a new Media Server is found on your network, users have the option to add its media files to the playlist on their local copy of Windows Media Playe for streaming content.
In our LAN test of On2Share, the 878K download worked as described and had minimal impact on either WMP or our network bandwidth. We do, however, recommend that users interested in On2Share make sure that their UPnP-enabled devices have the function activated to ensure connectivity.
