Sharp CE-MR01 Network Media Player

sharp ce-mr01Sharp Japan has announced details of their first entry into the digital media adapter space with the introduction of the Sharp CE-MR01 Network Media Player, which will be available February 2005 for suggested retail price of 40,000 yen (about $385 USD). As you would expect the CE-MR01 handles a variety of audio (MP3, linear PCM, WAV, WMA), video (MPEG-1/2, WMV), and photo formats (BMP, JPEG, PNG), but it does not appear to be Windows Media Connect compatible making it useless if you want to stream Windows DRM protected media files. However, the CE-MR501 does support 802.11a/b/g and follows the Digital Living Network Alliance guidelines for interoperability with other DLNA compatible devices.
