Blockbuster Online to Leverage Rental Outlets for DVD Mail Distribution

Great news for Blockbuster Online subscribers today. Blockbuster plans to use its brick-and-mortar rental outlets to deliver movies by mail sometime next year. The action is another body blow to competitor Netflix and others to steal away market share by offering subscribers next day delivery.

Unfortunately, no set date has been announced for the improved service, but subscribers, like myself, would like to see that ball rolling soon. In the meantime, Blockbuster needs to get its act together and build up their distribution centers’ stockpile of movies. I can’t tell you how many times I have placed movies in my queue to find they are in perpetual “short wait” or even worse “long wait” standing. At this point, I think the only thing that’s keeping people from switching back to Netflix is its monthly two free in-store movie or game rental E-coupon.
