Linksys Dual-Band Wireless A+G Product Line Launched
Today Linksys has also announced the October availability of their new Dual-Band Wireless A+G Broadband Router, PC Card, PCI Adapter, and USB Adapter. The idea of combining the two protocols is to not just cover all bases (802.11a/b/g), but to provide higher quality 5GHz “A” signal to entertainment video streaming devices coming out in the near future (rumor has it that Windows Media Extender devices will connect via 802.11a) . According to Charlie Giancarlo, president of Linksys-Cisco, at a Linksys Press Event this morning, the industry is pushing for entertainment centric streaming devices to be predominately Wireless-A for the reason that 802.11g is a “busy and congested” frequency that will interfere with wireless video transmissions (true enough, but that leaves us recent 802.11g owners in the cold).
