panasonic bl c30Panasonic has just upgraded their 802.11b Internet security camera to 802.11g with the new Panasonic BL-C30 Network Remote Monitoring System, which will be available in Japan sometime in September (most likely available to the U.S. later this year or early next). Like its predecessor the BL-C30 can be accessed via a PC (video streaming) or phone browser (still images only), with pan and tilt control available from both. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (subscription required) has an article about how broadband is quickly getting embedded into our lives, and changing how we interact, shop, research and communicate. With tyranny of dial-up over, more than 53 percent americans use broadband for as AJC calls it, “for living.” One in four Americans now has a high-speed Internet connection at home, up about 60 percent from 2003, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project. According to comScore Networks, three major cities – San Diego, New York and Boston – have more broadband than dial-up users. “Almost everything you can think of, once they have a broadband connection, they’re more likely to do it (online),” Greg Bloom, senior analyst at Nielsen NetRatings told AJC. We have received word from Hush Technologies‘ PR person that next month the company will begin offering a Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (guess MCE 2005 is officially out next month) version of the highly popular Hush ATX fanless, A/V component-sized PC. Their PR person also confirmed with us that the product will be available for the U.S. consumer market – previously, Hush products were only available in Europe. MORE »

Toshiba Wi-Fi TVs?

There’s talk that Toshiba is working on a Wi-Fi chip for next-generation television sets and other non-PC devices. The chip will be used for streaming A/V files and data, but the only bummer is that the chip is 802.11a based, as opposed to the popular 802.11g specification.
