SoniqCast Aireo Element - Wireless MP3 Player
At first glance we didn’t know what to make of SoniqCast’s Aireo Element Wireless MP3 player. Why would anyone want to combine Wi-Fi into an MP3 player? How about because it allows users to easily upload, download, and even automatically time sync their music from any PC using commonplace 802.11b. Or how about, because users will be able to share their music collection with other Wi-Fi enabled entertainment devices–a huge advantage over Bluetooth that generally just talks to other peripheral-type devices. In our opinion, both are strong reasons, but Aireo’s $300 price tag will make it a difficult buying decision when considering such a novel device. MORE »

Additionally, Apex has added Personal Video Recording (PVR) functionality to the device since it was originally unveiled at CES. MORE »

Mirra’s Stuffed with Cash
Apparently I am not the only one who loves Mirra and its back-up drives. The company just got a $8 million cash infusion from venture capitalists including Sequoia Capital. Sequoia Capital Partner Sameer Gandhi has joined Mirra’s board of directors. The investment will be used to accelerate Mirra’s product development schedules, retail market penetration and marketing efforts. What more, the company snagged Jonathan M. Harris from Roku as Mirra’s vice president of sales. What does that mean? Is Roku in some sort of trouble? After all when the VP of sales leaves, well…. Anyway I think Cisco should buy Mirra. Given that it is trying to go consumer with Linksys, this could be a good addition to its portfolio. MORE »

Broadband Gateways Good for DSL
